La Pintade - our Provencal bird

Throughout the shop you can find them - they are watching you...with their tiny heads and round bodies - they are the very famous Provencal birds, La Pintade or guinea hens. Heidi Caillard, a potter in Lussan, Provence, France developed a deep fondness for the little creatures. Fascinated by their almost abstract shapes she began to create them in clay. Heidi would sit in the garden with her son and paint the guineas, bringing them to life with her artistic eye. If you are lucky enough to share your home with La Pintade you can read this (translation from French) at the bottom of the hens:

La Pintade

"Having been fascinated for more than thirty years by the originality and the elegance of the guinea hens that run free in my garden, it finally came to me that by immortalizing them in a harmonious and timeless object I could convey my love for the guineas to others." Heidi C.

A new small flock of these beautiful birds have just arrived in the shop - come and see.
