Counting Sheep

What to do when 3000 sheep come to town? Move over and celebrate, of course! Tomorrow, Monday, May 24th is the annual Transhumance festival in St.Remy de Provence. St. Remy, well know for it's Wednesday Market is about 10 minutes from my home in Maussane and an easy visit from our village.

The Tramshumance is celebrated every year in St. Remy as the local shepherds take their flocks and herd them to the mountain areas for their summer grazing. Get there early as the streets are closed for the flocks and parking is always hard to come by even during a standard market day. The day is completed with a flea-brocante market in the square and sheep dog demonstrations. These local Provence festivals are traditions you do not want to miss (the passage des troupeaux starts at 11am) - so if you are in the area be sure to make a trip this Alpilles' village. This is one the kids will love.
